Window blinds that you see in stores are easy to manufacture because of mass production. What about a classic rolled-up bamboo blind? Bamboo strips that are used for blind designs cannot be massed produced because, aside from being sourced from organic bamboo, the strips cannot be cast into form. Each bamboo strip is unique in its natural curvature or external features.
The bamboo plant always evokes a feeling of warmth and coziness. It can be because of how it blends well to any kind of furniture or home design or it can be because it is nature right into your home. Bamboo used as window blinds can be very costly and it is not because of the material but because of the labor behind it.
Fine strips of bamboo are precisely cut into thinner strips called matchstick. There was a time when a bamboo window blind was also known as a matchstick blind. The strips are woven together with a nylon string folding it into a window blind. The usual PVC blinds have mass produced strips with pre-bored holes. As evident, bamboo blinds are harder to make than the usual PVC window blind.
All variations of the PVC window blind are also available in bamboo window blinds--be it in color, style or presentation. Still, despite its elegance, there are people who go for PVC blinds. They say while the bamboo window blind needs protection from insects, the PVC blind does not. They claim that there is no such thing as solid protection; the bamboo blind is still prone to rot as all organic materials are. Nevertheless, these same people acknowledge that if properly laminated, the durability and long life of the bamboo blind may be compared with that of the usual PVC window blind.
